Our Strategy

1. Promote Environmental Education

Specific Objective: Raise environmental awareness in the towns of the San Carlos watershed, by means of creating space within schools and other organied groups for the promotion of a collective consciousness and an integrated perception of water.

2. Facilitate Cooperation Between Important Actors Towards Environmental Initiatives

Specific Objective: Support the processes of community development as related to the environment through cooperation and the formulation of projects, promoting local responses to local needs.

3. Encourage Alternate Systems of Environmental Management

Specific Objective: Create incentives for businesses in the San Carlos Watershed to engage in environmental stewarship. Increase their productivity and generate environmental benefits through the use of economic, legal, and technological means.

4. Conserve and Restore Ecosystems and Ecosystem Serices

Specific Objective: Promote forest conservation and sustainable use of natural resources through the use of legal and technical mechanisms in order to guarantee sustainable supply of water for future generations.

5. Initiate the Creation of Land-Use Management Plans

Specific Objective: Develop strategic alliances with municipalities and other institutions involved in land-use planning; initiate a process of cooperation and comanagement in order to elaborate natural resource management plans.

6. Research and Monitoring

Specific Objective: Maintain a process of environmental and social research in the San Carlos Watershed through identification of important data gaps and convening relevant institutions and actors in order to better inform the decision-making process.

7. Promote Access to Information

Specific Objective: Create a central location for the housing and sharing of environmental information related to the San Carlos Watershed through the collection and compilation of available data and the promotion of new research based on the needs of actors within the watershed.
